Configuring Entra ID Provisioning with SCIM for Capptions Direct

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for IT administrators to configure Entra ID provisioning to Capptions Direct using SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management).

Before we get started

Take note

In order to configure this you need:

  • Administrative access to Capptions Direct.
  • Administrative access to Microsoft Azure Entra ID.
  • An Entra ID group with users assigned for syncing to Capptions Direct.

Configuring Entra ID Provisioning with SCIM

 

 
Step 1: Generate SCIM API Key in Capptions Direct
  1. Log in to Capptions Direct.
  2. Navigate to Settings > API Keys.
  3. Click Create API Key.
  4. Enter a name, e.g., Entra ID SCIM.
  5. (Optional) Add a detailed description.
  6. Select SCIM Sync under Scope.
  7. Click Create.
  8. Next to the newly created API Key, click the Eye icon to reveal and copy the Secret Token. Save this token securely for use in the next steps.
Step 2: Configure Provisioning in Azure Entra ID
  1. Log in to the Azure Portal.
  2. Navigate to Enterprise Applications > New Application.
  3. Select Create your own application.
  4. Enter a name, e.g., Capptions Direct Provisioning.
  5. Choose Integrate any other application you don't find in the gallery (Non-gallery) (default selection).
  6. Click Create.
  7. In the new application’s details, go to Manage > Provisioning.
  8. Click New configuration.
  9. Enter the following details:
  10. Click Test Connection to verify the configuration.
  11. If the connection is successful, click Create to save the provisioning configuration.
Step 3: Assign Users and Groups for Provisioning
  1. In the application’s Provisioning section, go to Manage > Users and Groups.
  2. Add the Entra ID groups containing the users you want to sync to Capptions Direct.
  3. Return to the Provisioning section and click Start Provisioning.
  4. Allow up to 40 minutes for users and teams to sync and appear in Capptions Direct.
Optional: Configure Team Name Prefix Stripping
Capptions Direct supports stripping prefixes from team names during sync. For example, Entra ID groups named Capptions-Rotterdam and Capptions-Amsterdam can appear in Capptions Direct as Rotterdam and Amsterdam.
To enable this feature:
  1. Contact Capptions Support and provide the prefix (e.g., Capptions-) to be stripped.
  2. Ensure this is configured in the backend before starting the provisioning process.
Notes
  • Ensure the Entra ID groups are correctly set up with the desired users before starting provisioning.
  • If the connection test fails, verify the Tenant URL and Secret Token for accuracy.
